Galician Health Service (Sergas) introduces a Circular Economy Strategy aligned with NEB

date:  11/09/2023

On 6 September, the Galician Health Service (Sergas), a NEB Community member, introduced its Circular Economy Strategy in Santiago de Compostela. This strategy is a detailed plan that will guide the regional healthcare system for the next seven years.

Sergas is pioneering in its approach to sustainability matters, with its circular economy strategy firmly aligned with NEB's core values. In fact, it is the only European healthcare system that is a NEB partner.

Healthcare has a significant impact on the environment. It runs 24/7, all year round, involves substantial travel, uses disposable materials, and creates CO2 emissions. Sergas' Circular Economy Strategy includes various steps to save money, improve efficiency, and reduce emissions in all healthcare facilities. One of its goals is to cut over 46,500 tons of CO2 emissions every year by 2030, which is equivalent to planting more than one million trees.

The strategy will be translated into English and shared with the NEB Community.
