Have your say on the New European Bauhaus Facility: fill in our questionnaire

The European Commission is inviting all interested parties to contribute to the consultation on defining the content of the New European Bauhaus Facility.

The NEB Facility is a unique, multi-annual EU funding tool that aims to transform neighbourhoods through design for sustainability and inclusion. The consultation seeks to gather information on specific needs for development and transformation on the ground as well as the most cutting-edge ideas required for the comprehensive transformation of neighbourhoods for the better. This will help the Commission develop the roadmap that will guide the facility’s implementation in the 2025-27 period.

The NEB Facility, established in the Horizon Europe 2025-27 Strategic Plan, covers the full cycle of implementation of solutions for neighbourhoods by combining two components: a Research and Innovation part funded by some €120 million per year of Horizon Europe funds, and a roll-out part, with a similar budget ambition as the R&I component, delivered through investments across different EU programmes. From a research and innovation standpoint, the facility has three focus areas, whose joint impact is highly relevant for the NEB: connecting the green transformation, social inclusion and local democracy; circular and regenerative approaches for the built environment; and innovative funding and new business models for the transformation of neighbourhoods. To deliver NEB-inspired transformation at scale, the roll-out component will combine EU, public and private funding to deploy innovative solutions, support education, re- and up-skilling, provide capacity-building, and more.

NEB in the European Semester Spring Package

Last week, the European Commission provided policy guidance to Member States under the 2024 European Semester Spring Package to build a robust and future-proof economy, including using the New European Bauhaus values and principles.

The package will secure competitiveness, resilience and long-term prosperity for all.

With the European Climate Law, the EU has committed to reaching climate neutrality by 2050 and strengthening climate adaptation. The New European Bauhaus is highlighted as instrumental in delivering a climate-neutral, circular, nature-positive built environment

When implementing their investments, Member States should build on the New European Bauhaus values & principles to foster sustainability with affordable solutions, involving local communities in designing transformation avenues.

Latest updates from the EIT Community NEB

The EIT Community NEB supports on-the-ground projects that embody the values of the NEB movement.

In a business landscape where profit margins often outweigh societal impact, the Catalyse NEB start-up accelerator programme is an example of positive change. Launched last week at a special event in Leuven, Belgium, the programme features a record-setting cohort of 28 funded start-ups and represents a collaborative effort to support entrepreneurship that prioritises societal well-being alongside economic prosperity.

EIT Community New European Bauhaus also confirmed 16 new projects to receive funding through its community-focused Connect NEB and Co-create NEB programmes, which focus on citizen-generated solutions to the challenges facing cities, peri-urban and rural areas. While the Connect NEB programme engages people in relevant challenges within their local community, the Co-create NEB programme calls on local communities and public authorities to re-design public space.
