Dear reader,

In the January edition of our newsletter, you will find the latest news, event highlights and more stories from the NEB community. But before we begin, let us emphasize the most important and time sensitive news of today - the NEB Prizes 2025 and the NEB Boost for Small Municipalities which we encourage you to share in your circles. Both awards invite even the smallest projects and municipalities to apply, and chances are, with your help, we can reach them even if they are not our regular readers.

Among other highlights, the whole year of 2025 is going to be marked by learnings from the first NEB projects on the ground and focused on the NEB community and new developments of the initiative. We will be happy to bring this news to your inbox every month.

NEB Prizes 2025 – 5th edition of the prizes since 2021

As you might have noticed in our earlier communication over different channels, NEB Prizes 2025 are in full swing accepting applications until 14 February 2025.

Click here to submit your project or idea now.

NEB Prizes will reward 22 completed projects (Strand A, “The New European Bauhaus Champions”) and concepts (Strand B, “New European Bauhaus Rising stars” for talents under 30 years old) under four categories:

  • Reconnecting with nature;
  • Regaining a sense of belonging;
  • Prioritising the places and people that need it the most;
  • Shaping a circular industrial ecosystem and supporting life-cycle thinking.

Additionally, the 2025 Prizes edition will have a special focus on housing: the NEB “Affordable Housing Prizes”. Four projects will be rewarded for contributing to the EU’s efforts to improve housing affordability in line with the NEB values and principles.

Winners and runners-ups will receive monetary prizes of up to €30,000, as well as a communication package to help them further develop and promote their projects and concepts.

NEW award - NEB Boost for Small Municipalities

NEB Boost for Small Municipalities is the new prize, with the support of the European Parliament. It will reward ongoing NEB-aligned projects, providing them the opportunity to address early-stage challenges.

Before you read on, there are two important dates to mark in your calendars:

The NEB Boost for Small Municipalities is targeting rural areas with populations under 20,000 inhabitants to acknowledge the critical role smaller communities play in the New European Bauhaus movement. The NEB Boost will recognise 20 projects aligned with the NEB values and principles that demonstrate a strong community engagement. Eligible projects must focus on transforming the built environment, including the renovation and adaptation of buildings and public spaces. Do you happen to know such a project? Do not hesitate to invite them to apply!

The 20 winners of the NEB Boost will each receive a €30,000 prize, along with a tailored communication package from the Commission to further amplify their achievements.
