The European Social Innovation Competition 2024

Launched in 2013 in memory of social innovation pioneer Diogo Vasconcelos, the European Social Innovation Competition (EUSIC) awards three prizes for the best socially innovative projects for a more inclusive, just, and sustainable Europe.

The competition supports innovators to develop their ideas into working solutions and facilitates a network of radical innovators shaping our society. This prize acknowledges the social innovation as a potent approach for responding to societal challenges. This year’s challenge concerns social innovation in “Digital democracy”.

The European Social Innovation Competition is open for applications until 11 June 2024 (17:00 CET). You can find detailed information about the competition on this website

Presentation of the ACTIONbook and the upcoming EU preparatory action on transformative innovation

Date & Time: 24 May 2024, 12:00-13:00 (CET)
Registration: Register here

Addressing complex challenges requires different tools, mindsets and approaches from those traditionally used. Innovation policy alone cannot help us tackle such problems, nor achieve the European Green Deal. For this, interterritorial collaboration, network governance and coordinated policy-action mixes enable efforts at the local, regional and national levels to achieve long-term societal wellbeing and climate resilient development.

ACTIONbook provides a collection of practices from territories that describe existing approaches to transformative innovation taking place in Europe. It also offers tools that can be used to put them into practice.

The online session will begin with a brief presentation of the book. After that, the authors and session participants will dive into a discussion on the book's content and any questions about the book and the approach.

Community feedback on the NEB Festival

The NEB Festival 2024 has concluded, and while it was successful, there is always room for improvement. Many attendees have already provided feedback during the festival or through the dedicated survey. To further evaluate the festival, we are organising a dedicated session. This session will allow for a further collection and examination of the feedback received and will help in making the necessary improvements for future editions.

Open invitation to join

Date & Time: 17 May 2024 at 8:00 (CET)
Platform: Webex
Registration: Register here

Last Friday (10 May) the representatives of the existing New European Bauhaus Local Chapters (Stockholm, Woodland Living Chapter, Emilia Romagna region and Brussels region) met to get acquainted and to discuss the different models of governance and the thematic focus of each Chapter.

The Chapters decided to focus on a common proposal for the open call "Setting up a New European Bauhaus hub for results and impact" HORIZON-MISS-2024-NEB-01-03. They will continue to advance the idea this Friday, 17 May, at 8:00 (CET) online.

The Chapters are extending an invitation to participate in the meeting to the Community and use this opportunity to experiment with a radically transparent and collaborative approach to prepare the proposal. They believe that, while challenging from the organisational point of view, the involvement of a large number of Community Members would be a pre-condition for a "living" Hub and a "living" exchange of results, impacts, wisdom and knowledge in formats that go beyond the more traditional ones.

Interested parties are welcome to join but need to register for the meeting. Everyone joining the meeting is recommended to get familiar with the call.

NB: Links to the Local Chapters lead to the NEB online platform. If you are a representative of NEB Community member and don't have access to the platform follow these instructions to get it.

State of Culture Barometer Survey

Culture Action Europe is conducting research on the State of Culture in Europe. They aim to create a snapshot of cultural policy affairs in Europe and understand how national and European priorities align with the concerns and aspirations of the sector. They invitate people working in cultural and creative sectors and industries to share their insights.

The survey is open until midnight on 18 May 2024.

Exhibition opening: Capture Your City

Join the festive finale of the Capture Your City competition, where the organisers will reveal the winners and you get to see which photos made it into this year's exhibition. As something new this year, the competition has also taken place in other European cities. Over 5,000 photos participated in the competition. An international jury with representatives from Riga, Turin, Milan, Amsterdam, and Ljubljana, has selected the 56 photos that are part of the exhibition.

Enjoy the opening of the exhibition on a nice summer afternoon on 6 June 2024 from 17:00 onwards in Bryghuspladse, Copenhagen in front of the Danish Architecture Center (DAC)
