Commission welcomes political agreement on new rules to boost energy performance of buildings across the EU
On 7 December 2023, The Commission welcomed the provisional agreement reached between the European Parliament and the Council to reduce the emissions and energy use of buildings across the EU. The strengthened Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) will support the EU's efforts to decarbonise buildings across the whole Union. This is an area in which the concrete impact of the European Green Deal will improve the quality of life for people, in their homes and workplaces, and lower their energy bills. This deal will also boost Europe's energy independence in line with the REPowerEU Plan and make a strong business case for a cleaner buildings sector in the EU. Read more in the press release.

The European Environment Agency published its first progress report today identifying what still needs to be done to reach the EU’s climate and environmental targets, as decided in the 8th Environment Action Programme. The report highlights the need to finalize proposals for the Green Deal and push for greater systematic transformations across the food, construction and mobility industries. While there is progress to celebrate, it is clear that the economy is not yet on track according to the planetary boundaries. DAC Dialogue x Desire: Who sets the boundaries for nature in the city?
Nature in the city is no longer solely defined by a freshly mowed lawn, a flowerbed, or a plane tree on the street. Not anymore, at least. Emerging agendas, where climate and biodiversity take centre stage, are shifting our perception of nature, and this shift is already visible in the urban landscape. But if nature is to occupy more space and play a more significant role in the city, what can we do?If you are in Copenhagen on the 16th of January, come join the Danish Architecture Center and Desire an Irresistible Circular Society and engage in this inspiring dialogue (in Danish).
