Co-create trans-European Modernism by joining ETOM-NEB-Lab project

The ETOM-NEB-Lab, which was introduced to the NEB Community in November, is a collaborative laboratory that is focused on trans-European Modernism. The goal of the lab is to create and develop transnational cooperation, establish best practices and capacity-building initiatives, and establish a decentralized and recurring EUROPEAN TRIENNIAL OF MODERNISM festival.

Both, NEB Community partners and external entities, are welcome to apply for an advisory board role or to become a project partner. By becoming a project partner, an entity can:

✅ attend official Lab meetings
✅ contribute to national and transnational research platforms
✅ participate in the General Assembly

To learn more about the project, you can watch the recording of the project pitch or check project's presentation on the NEB platform. For any inquires about the project, please contact Rober K. Huber or Eszter Davida

EU observatory on deforestation and forest degradation goes online

The JRC-managed observatory on deforestation and forest degradation went online last week. It will help protect and restore the world’s forests and ensure that Europeans consume deforestation-free products. The observatory is structured around three main components: global forest monitoring, production and trade of commodities, and EU tools for forest monitoring. It will support the EU’s new rules on deforestation-free products, laid down to guarantee that the products placed on the EU market or exported from it do not originate from deforested land or have not contributed to forest degradation. Find more information about the observatory on this website

Corrigendum: Catalyse NEB call deadline extension

Application period for EIT Community NEB Catalyse programme, a start-up accelerator for ventures working to implement NEB values across Europe, has been extended to 19 January 2024. It was previously mentioned in the last Community Update that the call would close on 4th January, which was incorrect. We apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused.

Advocacy for transdisciplinarity, local agency, and creative co-creation in Horizon Europe and the New European Bauhaus

Daniela Rizzi from ICLEI recently participated in a roundtable discussion in the framework of Nature of Cities initiative delving into two topics close to her heart: the New European Bauhaus and co-creation

Daniela invites you to carve out a moment to delve into this insightful discussion. In essence, the discussion highlights that novel projects can spotlight (1) community-centred greening and (2) art-engaged transdisciplinary co-production that can pave the way for transformative change. The emphasis on nature-based solutions holds immense potential, fostering public agency in nurturing their local environments.

News from the NEB Brussels Local Chapter

First of all a reminder: this Wednesday the Chapter becomes a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). If you are interested in learning more about DAO's and their use for community-based projects, join the free online work session this Wednesday from 12:00 to 14:00 (CET).

The Beautiful, Together project had two new work sessions, one on 20 November and the second one today, on 11 December.

On 20 November the team met at SLRB's premises with members of different departments of the SLRB's team, Housing Europe, Creative District and Livepods. Livepods gave a presentation on how to collect citizen experiences related to works of art in public spaces to inspire the design of new public spaces and for learning and monitoring purposes.

The outcomes:
✅ Project team will organize a half-day meeting in January with selected social housing companies (SISPs) who could be interested to introduce the methodology as part of their engagement activity for SLRB's ‘collective 101%’ programme.  Team hopes to have one or two demo cases to work with.
✅ Brussels Chapter works on a proposal for a satellite event during the NEB Festival.
✅  The Chapter deepens the use of sensemaking methods in a new working session with Creative District for one of their projects. This is the second session we held today [11 December], more information available on the Chapter's website.
