Into the woods

How can forests provide inspiration and material for sustainable construction while fostering biodiversity and carbon sinks? How should we work with nature to design and build a better future?

These are some of the topics that were discussed at the New European Bauhaus goes Into the Woods event on 24 November in Finland.

In her intervention, Commission President von der Leyen announced the creation of a New European Bauhaus Academy for sustainable construction.

“The New European Bauhaus Academy will focus mainly on research and innovation and on the necessary skills that we need for the green transition, mainly in the construction sector”.

The event was organised in the framework of the Nordic Carbon Neutral Bauhaus NEB Lab project by the Government of Finland, in collaboration with the European Commission and the Governments of Estonia and Sweden.

NEB Lab project on innovative funding

Can we imagine new ways of living that respect our environment and find innovative ways to finance them? How can we concretely support beautiful, sustainable and inclusive projects across Europe looking beyond traditional EU instruments?

These are some of the questions we seek to answer in the context of the NEB Lab project on innovative funding.

Following its first phase, which consisted of two pilots (philanthropy and crowdfunding), the NEB Lab project on innovative funding entered a new phase. The project will explore how to fund small, grassroots projects with low, seed-level financing to make a tangible impact on the New European Bauhaus community. The goal is to look into creating a ‘one-stop-shop’ for small projects across Europe and offer the best funding solutions for each project via crowdfunding, philanthropy, or EU public funding.
