Europan Europe has revealed the winners of its 17th architecture competition, launched in March 2023 on the theme of "Living Cities". Young architects submitted 815 urban, landscape, and architectural project proposals to transform 51 sites in 12 EU countries.

In light of Belgium's 200th anniversary in 2030, the EUROPAN competition offered an opportunity to reimagine the iconic Cinquantenaire park as a link between the EU institutions, the city of Brussels, and Belgium. The solutions had to be fully aligned with the values of the New European Bauhaus. 

The winning project, "Plateau de Maelbeek", aims to transform the park by completely covering the existing hopper and creating interconnected basins to collect rainwater, increase biodiversity and enrich visitors' experience. More information is available on the competition site.
