What is a DAO?

Distributed autonomous organizations (DAO) are organizational structures that enable distributed decision making while encouraging and recognizing non-monetary contributions to projects and activities in general.
They offer an alternative to traditional, top-down governance models while providing teams and communities with new opportunities to acknowledge and redistribute value. DAO's are often enabled by digital distributed ledger technologies (i.e. blockchain). DAO's are maybe one of the organizational forms that matches closely the ambitions of the New European Bauhaus in terms of new governance, collaboration and business models.
