On 25 June was held in Vienna the 6th and last Steering Committee of the SwitchMed II project.

SwitchMed is an EU funded project implemented by UNIDO, UNEP and MedWaves. It has been implemented in the Southern Mediterranean region and has aimed at promoting the Circular Economy precept – as well as Sustainable Consumption and Production – at various levels (political and legal, institutional and technical) through direct support to both national governments and the private operators (SMEs and Industries). The project also included a Blue Economy component.

The EU (DG NEAR) has financially supported the SwitchMed project during its 10 years of implementation, the EU contribution amounting about EUR 20 million for the period.

In addition to the DG NEAR representatives, the Steering Committee was attended by the above mentioned implementing partners and by the national focal points representing both ministries of Environment and Industry of the beneficiary countries.

The meeting was the occasion to share the latest results obtained by the project during this last year of implementation and to present the proposed follow-up to this action which will be taking the form of a new EU-funded initiative called “Green Forward”.
