CBAM training for Southern Neighbourhood clean energy stakeholders
On 10 June, the European Commission with the MED•GEM Network organised a high-level training session on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) at the Breydel Building in Brussels. Introduced by DG NEAR and the MED-GEM Network, this taylor-made hybrid event brought together national focal points and country correspondents from the MED-GEM Network, but also key representatives from renewable energy and sustainable development - economy, commerce and finance ministries, industry associations, economic sector figures affected by the carbon tax, EU Southern Neighbourhood delegations, DG NEAR and DG ENER team leaders, renewable energy experts, and more than 60 participants online from both shores of the Mediterranean.
Key highlights of the training included:
- Presentation on ETS and Carbon Pricing: Maja-Alexandra Dittel (DG CLIMA)
- Implementation Guidelines for CBAM: Vicente Hurtado Roa (DG TAXUD)
- EuroMeSCo Policy Study presentation: Dr. Michael Jakob (Climate Transition Economics)
- Roundtable Discussion: Insights from Southern Mediterranean countries on decarbonization and CBAM implementation.
