8th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM)

The 8th UfM Regional Forum which gathered High-Level participants among the UfM Secretariat, EU foreign affairs ministers, Commissioners, as well as head of International Organizations and Foundations took place in Barcelona on the 27 November to discuss the critical situation in Gaza-Palestine and Israel.

On 27 November, the 8th UfM Regional Forum took place in Barcelona, at Recinto Modernista Sant Pau, with the participation of UfM co-Chairs (EU HR/VP and Jordan), UfM Secretary General, 27 foreign affairs ministers, the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, the President of the Anna Lindh Foundation, ARLEM, EESC, European Investment Bank and the Minister of Saudi Arabia as President of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Commissioner Lenarčič, European Commissioner for Crisis Management, spoke on behalf of the European Commission. 
The Regional Forum highlighted the value of the UfM as a convening power in the region.

Ministers came together to discuss the political and humanitarian situation in Israel and Gaza-Palestine, as well as its consequences in the region. Participants exchanged on the necessity to put an immediate end to the killing of civilians, to condemn the Hamas terrorist attacks, to respect International Humanitarian Law, to extend the humanitarian pause and to expand the diplomatic efforts for peace, security and stability in the region.

DG NEAR, together with EEAS and Spain, coordinated the preparations of the Regional Forum.
