EuroMeSCo held the 2023 edition of the Annual Conference “From the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership to a Euro-Mediterranean Geostrategic Alliance” on 10-11 October. The event, hosted by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, welcomed around 150 participants from 32 countries across the region, including representatives from think tanks, academic institutions, government, civil society organisations, and the private sector, as well officials from EU institutions and members states, the Union for the Mediterranean and the European Investment Bank.

New arising geostrategic security and energy challenges in the region call for intensified cooperation of the EU with its Southern Neighbours. The conference sessions explored how a more geopolitical Europe could contribute to mitigating socio-economic repercussions of the war in Ukraine in the Mediterranean, as well as addressing emerging geostrategic and energy challenges. The debates were marked by the recent escalation of violence in the Middle East. Experts discussed a reshaping of Euro-Mediterranean relations, prompting a re-evaluation of existing cooperation mechanisms.
