Organised with the support of Portugal and the North-South Centre, the launching event of the South Programme V gathered 130 participants from Europe and from the Southern Mediterranean region in Lisbon on 13-14 March 2023. Focused on the creation of a common legal space between the two shores of the Mediterranean, this event provided a platform to exchange on the relevance and added value of Council of Europe’s standards and tools for the region. Thematic workshops provided an overview of the Programme’s main working areas and introduction to Council of Europe conventions.

As a component and integral part of the South Programme V, the sub-project project “Promotion of Good Governance: Fight against Corruption, Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism in the Southern Mediterranean” (SNAC 5)  was officially launched simultaneously.  The project SNAC 5 aims to support the anti-corruption (AC) and anti-money laundering/combatting financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) measures and competent authorities by providing technical assistance to beneficiary jurisdictions through joint and subregional actions and as such contributes towards the objectives of the South Programme V.
