The members of the Policy Working Group of the project 'Mainstreaming Employment into Trade and Investment in the Southern Neighbourhood' (METI)  met in Rabat on 22 February 2023 to select a sub-sector belonging to the 'Clothing' family on which the project will base its technical assistance activities for the benefit of its beneficiaries.

The working group highlighted that trade and investment play an increasingly important role in the Moroccan economy and are the main drivers of economic growth, job creation and sustainable development.

The members of the working group chose the sub-sector of knitwear for clothing according to 7 selection criteria: national priorities, export potential, employment potential, diversification of export markets, moving up the value chain, sustainability factors and informality.

In order to support the development of this productive sub-sector, including for SMEs, while creating quality jobs, especially for women and young people, the project will conduct analyses of the value chain of this sub-sector with a focus on the export segment and the skills and qualifications required.
