The first edition of the European Journalism Symposium (Assises européennes du Journalisme) took  place in Brussels from 23 to 25 November. The event, organised by IHECS and the French association Journalisme & Citoyenneté, brought together information professionals to reflect on the conditions of quality journalism in Europe and beyond.

In this context, thanks to the SahafaMed project funded by DG NEAR, various side events, seminars, debates and workshop toke place. The first edition was opened by the acting director Henrike Trautmann who welcomed donors, NGOs, journalists and independent media outlet from the Southern Neighborhood region.

More than 50 journalists from the region came to Brussels to participate at the event and to discuss common issues, such as media needs, challenges and expectations, obstacles opportunities and innovation in the region.
