EU-OECD programme on investment launches FDI Qualities Review in Jordan

The launch of the FDI Qualities Review of Jordan by the OECD, the Ministry of Investment, the EU and the Jordan Strategy Forum took place at a timely moment. The government is revising its investment law to revive falling Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows and King Abdallah II just launched the Economic Modernisation Vision that will require significant financing from the private sector, including external financing.

Panel discussions focused on how the recommendations of the report can support this reform momentum. Discussions also showed that the sustainability areas of FDI Qualities (green, gender, jobs, and innovation) are highly relevant for a country like Jordan and that investment policymaking is gradually shifting to consider FDI impacts on society and the environment. The launch event gathered around 100 participants from different ministries, the central bank, the private sector, international organisations (ILO, UNDP, ESCWA, World Bank, GIZ), EU embassies (Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain) and was covered by national TV channels, several newspapers and social medias.
