Euromed Justice – Conference on Environmental Law – Tunis, 22-23 June

A conference on environmental law was organised by the EMJ Programme in close coordination with Algeria, the French and Tunisian Ministries of Justice, under the French Presidency to the EU Council. It took place in Tunis, Tunisia, on 22 and 23 June. The main aim of the event was to explore the development of a network of magistrates specialised in environmental law on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea.

The event was opened by Ms Leila Jaffel, Minister of Justice of Tunisia; Ms Asma S'hiri Laabidi, Secretary General of Sea; Mr André Parant French Ambassador to Tunisia; Mr Marcus Cornaro, EU Ambassador to Tunisia; and Mr Virgil Constantin Ivan-Cucu, Coordinator of the EuroMed Justice Programme. Ms Leila Chikhaoui, Minister of environment of Tunisia closed the meeting. Participants attended five workshops, three of which were focused on sea maters: the fight against maritime pollution, the situation of protected maritime and terrestrial areas and waste trafficking.
