The six projects awarded with EU grants come from Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Palestine, and Tunisia:

• In Lebanon, the project led by SPNL (Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon) in partnership with IUCN and with the cities of Hammana and Menjez is entitled ‘’Integrating resilience to Climate Change and its impact in selected Lebanese municipalities’’. The action will focus on promoting renewable energy, efficient water resource management, and sustainable land use in four Lebanese municipalities: Hammana, Menjez, Baakline and Jdeidet Al-Chouf.
• In Jordan, Greater Irbid Municipality was selected with the following project: “Cleaner Energy Saving multi-use public building”. It aims at establishing a Green Public Park, Ride and Connect facility – an energy saving multi-use public building, powered by solar energy.
• In Israel, the municipality of Ramat Gan was awarded funding for the “Water Sensitive City” project. The action will enable the reclaiming of the water, its treatment and purification to use as a resource while also preventing floods in extreme weather events and promoting climate adaptation.
• In Palestine, the “Alternative energy and renewable resources for public and residential building in Abasan Al-Kabira (SUNBUILDING)” project led by the municipality of Abasan Al-Kabira aims to develop renewable energy use in public buildings and some residential buildings and promote energy-efficient behaviours while supplying Abasan Al-Kabira with electricity based on solar energy.
• In Tunisia, two projects got green light for funding: In the commune of Sfax the project entitled ‘’Mobilité active et intelligente à Sfax à travers des actions et initiatives novatrices en matière d’économie d’énergie et de résilience aux changement climatiques’’ centers on implementing smart mobility and energy efficiency solutions. In Nabeul the “Ville Verte” project, centers on waste optimization, renewable energy and efficient public lighting.

These projects support the implementation of cities’ Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plans (SEACAPs). Projects feature partnerships between municipalities, NGOs, academic organizations and other relevant actors. They include infrastructure components coupled with ‘soft’ complementary actions aimed at capacity building, awareness raising and engagement of local populations on climate action.

The project partners will also benefit from technical assistance from the Clima-Med project, throughout the projects’ implementation.
