EDU-SYRIA - Jordan

The current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is having a profound impact, not only on people’s health, but also on how they learn, work and, more broadly, on how they live. As COVID-19 started to spread across Jordan, forcing Universities to shift to virtual learning, many students were left without the technology they required to continue their education. UNHCR - Jordan

Thanks to funding from the European Union, through the EU Regional Trust Fund in response to the Syrian crisis, the Madad Fund, vulnerable refugee families like Ibtesam’s receive much-needed cash assistance. Read this story.

Back to the Future - Lebanon

Having fled Syria with her parents and two siblings in 2011, Batoul and her family settled in a camp in North Lebanon. It was not an easy journey. The family endured numerous hardships and had to overcome difficult circumstances before settling in, which affected Batoul the most, especially in her pursuit to receive an education. RDPP II - Lebanon

Eyad, a Syrian refugee, used to spend nights at the coffee shop in Northern Lebanon, protectively watching over Tariq, his 13-year-old son who worked night shifts there, often not finishing until 3 in the morning. His son was the sole earner in the family, and his daily wages equivalent to a few US dollars went towards the family’s survival. Read this story.

UNDP-UNHabitat - Lebanon

On 6 April 2021, the Municipal Empowerment and Resilience Project (MERP) supported Bourj Hammoud municipality to officially launch the Bourj Hammoud hotline. The hotline is open to residents of Bourj Hammoud from all nationalities and backgrounds. As a start, the hotline allows residents to reach out to the municipality regarding Covid-19 related issues, damaged housing following Beirut blast, and with requests for support for people with disabilities. At the same time, large-scale infrastructure projects to reach a more significant number of citizens are simply not sustainable considering the current political, economic, and governmental crises.
