EuroMeSCo releases Policy Paper on “Rural Vulnerability, Employment and Social Safety Programmes in Egypt: How Far Could State Initiatives Go?”
EuroMeSCo’s latest policy paper “Rural Vulnerability, Employment and Social Safety Programmes in Egypt: How Far Could State Initiatives Go?" is out. This paper takes a critical look at the Haya Karima initiative, launched by the Egyptian government in January 2019 with the aim of achieving inclusive development and eliminating poverty in rural communities. Hussein Suleiman (Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies) examines the goals, interventions, and scale of the Haya Karima initiative and analyses rural vulnerability and poverty in Egypt, with a focus on employment opportunities and quality.
