MEDSTAT V: Climate change indicators discussed in Barcelona

During the meeting, Southern Neighbourhood partner countries presented the functioning of their national environmental statistical systems and the national work plan for environmental statistics.

A meeting of the MEDSTAT V Climate Action and Biodiversity Working Group took place between 13-15 February 2023 in Barcelona, Spain.

Southern Neighbourhood partner countries presented the functioning of their national environmental statistical systems and the national work plan for environmental statistics. Discussions between the representatives of statistical offices and the MEDSTAT V experts revolved around climate change frameworks and methodology for extracting climate change indicators based on international standards.

Union for the Mediterranean’s Water, Environment and Blue Economy Division outlined relevant work done as part of the 2030 GreenerMed Agenda and related Sustainable Blue Economy framework. Eurostat’s work on climate change related statistics was also presented.

The lead country in the Climate Action and Biodiversity Working Group is Egypt. The meeting was organised with the English-French-Arabic interpretation.
