The Commission welcomes provisional agreement on new European Maritime Safety Agency mandate
|
The European Commission welcomes the provisional political agreement reached between the European Parliament and the Council to update the mandate of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). The revision of EMSA’s mandate strengthens its support to the Commission and national authorities in key areas such as maritime safety, environmental protection, security, decarbonisation, and digitalisation.

Recommendations for Member States to help tackle transport poverty and promote fair, sustainable mobility
|
The European Commission adopted recommendations to Member States on how to address the complex challenges of transport poverty across the EU notably in the context of the upcoming Social Climate Plans. To support Member States, the Social Climate Fund will mobilise funds, at least €86.7 billion as from 2026, to support the implementation of structural reforms as well as advance sustainable, inclusive and fair mobility.

Progress towards a green and digital tourism: Commission publishes stocktaking report
|
The European Commission has published its second report on the progress of actions set out in the Transition Pathway for Tourism – the first and most advanced of the transition pathways. Three years after the publication of the pathway towards a green and digital EU tourism sector the report shows concrete results in all action areas, supported by the engagement of tourism players across all EU Member States and beyond. According to the report, 240 organisations have responded to the call and made 529 pledges towards renewing EU tourism.

Promoting competitive and attractive rail services: Commission adopts Guidelines on setting up charges for the use of railway infrastructure
|
The European Commission adopted Interpretative Guidelines on the setting up of charges for the use of railway infrastructure (‘track access charges’). The guidelines present the Commission’s interpretation of key provisions in Directive 2012/34/EU, to help national authorities and rail infrastructure managers to apply the existing regulatory framework in a consistent way.

|
The Women in Rail Award was created to promote fairness, diversity, and equality, and celebrate outstanding and inspiring women and their achievements in the rail sector. Despite women comprising over 50% of rail passengers, they represent only about 20% of the rail workforce in the EU. The award is made in cooperation with the EU rail industry.

Unbalanced tourism: which European destinations are potentially vulnerable?
|
New insights from the EU tourism dashboard highlight possible risk factors such as too high numbers of visitors, tourism seasonality and intensity. Tourism brings multiple benefits to cities, however, there can be trade-offs, including crowding and pollution.

Solidarity Lanes: Latest figures – April 2025
|
Since May 2022, the Solidarity Lanes have allowed Ukraine to import ca. 76 Mt of goods, such as fuel, vehicles, fertilisers as well as military and humanitarian assistance. They also helped Ukraine to export around 183 million tonnes (Mt) of goods, according to data from the Ukrainian customs registers. The total value of trade via the Solidarity Lanes since May 2022 is estimated at around EUR 213 billion.

New CINEA publications on Intelligent Transport Systems and transforming aviation in the EU
|
Since 2014, the EU has provided over €850 million in funding through CEF Transport and Horizon Transport to support the development of trans-European Infrastructure and new technologies such as ITS transport corridors and harmonised C-ITS services. CINEA also published a new webpage highlighting how the EU is transforming aviation through funding programs like CEF Transport, Horizon Europe Transport, and the Innovation Fund by supporting innovations, modernising air traffic management and improving infrastructure. Since 2014, the EU has co-financed projects worth €4.5 billion.

Only 22% of transport workers in the EU are women
|
With only 22% of the transport sector being women, the sector is not gender balanced. The objective of the Women in Transport - EU Platform for change is to strengthen women's employment and equal opportunities for women and men in the transport sector thanks to the actions brought about by the Platform members. It will also serve as a forum to discuss and exchange good practices.
