Mobility and transport

On 11 July, the European Commission proposed measures to make freight transport more efficient and more sustainable. The measures improve rail infrastructure management, offer stronger incentives for low-emission lorries, and provide clearer information on freight transport greenhouse gas emissions. The aim is to increase efficiency within the sector, helping it to contribute to the European Green Deal target of cutting transport emissions by 90% by 2050, while allowing the EU single market to continue growing.

A study published by the European Commission and the European Investment Bank suggests that the European track gauge should be deployed as a first step on the lines to Lviv and Chiṣinău to improve connections between Poland and Ukraine, and between Romania and Moldova.

The European Commission welcomed the agreement reached on 7 July at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to revise its 2018 strategy on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships.

The European Commission published the results of the Study on Sustainable Transport Connections between Europe and Central Asia. This forms part of the Global Gateway strategy.
