Drone Strategy: Creating a large-scale European drone market

The European Drone Strategy 2.0, adopted on 29 November 2022, sets out a vision for the further development of the European drone market. Joint Declaration - 1 billion euro mobilised for Solidarity Lanes to increase global food security and provide a lifeline for Ukraine's economy

As part of the European Union's response to the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the European Commission and bordering EU Member States established on 12 May 2022 the EU-Ukraine Solidarity Lanes. The Solidarity Lanes are essential corridors for Ukraine's agricultural exports, as well as the export and import of other goods. To sustain and further increase the capacity of the Solidarity Lanes, we have been mobilising significant investments through various existing EU and national programmes. Administrative and operational facilitation needs to continue, including on streamlining border crossing procedures, and more funding is needed. The European Commission will urgently dedicate EUR 250 million of grants to boost the Solidarity Lanes. We also call on our international partners to provide further financial support to these actions, which are essential for Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and for global food security.

In the margins of COP27, the European Commission announced an additional 10 million euro for a project to reduce international shipping’s greenhouse gas emissions. The project, funded by the EU and managed by the International Maritime Organisation, began work in 2016, establishing five regional Maritime Technology Cooperation Centres around the world. The centres promoted energy efficiency through national and regional capacity-building seminars, as well as demonstration projects.
