Since January 2022, Eurostat offers researchers (affiliated with accredited research entities in Europe) a solution to access remotely the secure use files of Community Innovation Survey (CIS) and Structure of Earnings Survey (SES); and to perform computations on the datasets using several popular platforms and tools such as STATA® and the open source programming language R. So far, this was only possible on site in the Eurostat safe centre.
In order to be granted remote access, research entities have to follow the accreditation procedure described in section 9 of How to apply for European microdata. The procedure aims at verifying the ability of the research entity to properly secure their IT assets (endpoints and networks) connecting to the service of the European Commission hosting the CIS and SES secure use files.
This new remote access solution is the result of successful collaboration between Eurostat and the national statistical institutes in the Member States.
