Foreword

Farewell

date:  20/03/2024

Dear community members,

This short, 21st newsletter issue is also the conclusive one of our Community. It is with regret that we announce the closure of the Community of Practice – CITIES. However, we hope you will read this last issue to the end and decide to remain in touch with us.

Over the last few months, we have reflected carefully on our Community of Practice and the results it has yielded. In nearly 3 years, thanks to your input we have peeked into the future of cities, investigated territorial disparities in vulnerable, lonely places, looked at the different faces of homelessness, and gained valuable insights on a vast array of urban topics. Your contribution and engagement have given our activities a unique breadth of perspective, and we are immensely grateful for that.

While our passion for urban matters remains intact, the scope of our work has progressively broadened to cover a wider range of fascinating territorial development topics, and we are confident that our research about the sustainable, inclusive development of our territories can continue to spark your interest.

With that in mind, we are delighted to invite you to subscribe to our newly launched newsletter Transforming Territories. It will feature content ranging from urban and rural territorial statistics and analyses on demography, economy, tourism, energy and more, to the localisation of the Sustainable Development Goals, to place-based, transformative innovation, entrepreneurship and Smart Specialisation. If this sounds appealing to you, please also consider following us on X.

We wish to thank you once again for your priceless support and hope that you will choose to continue receiving our updates. Questions related to the Transforming Territories newsletter can be addressed to JRC-TRANSFORMING-TERRITORIES@ec.europa.eu. For any other matter, you can continue contacting us at JRC-KCTP@ec.europa.eu.
