The Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) has supported 86 projects by cities across the EU that have tested innovative solutions to address environmental and societal urban challenges in an inclusive way to achieve a resilient economy.  Following, the UIA has launched a study analysing the experiences of the UIA cities, departing from three pillars:

• Make the transition affordable for all. NEW REPORT RELEASED! Read more about how to empower the more vulnerable stakeholders and those with modest economic means in the transition. This report answers the question of “how to leave no one behind”, by showing that cities integrated just and green transitions in their local projects, identified the needs of the vulnerable people early in the process, tailored solutions to the induvial households, enabled financial mechanisms and introduced a collective infrastructure for the green transitions.

• Democratic transitions for all. This study will discover the opportunities to improve the governance and participative approaches in ensuring just transitions. If all citizens can’t equally influence the governance processes of a city, the transitions will only exacerbate the already existing inequalities. Discover more in the inception report.

• Skills required for a green future. Read more about the challenges cities face in forecasting skills for a green economy and reskilling the workforce. Cities used strong political leadership, enhanced their capacity in the municipal sector, and aligned their climate and social justice agendas to prepare for transitioning towards carbon neutrality. A series of podcasts on the topic can be found here.
