Connecting a Continent

A new report describes how the Joint Research Centre, in collaboration with European and African partners, prioritised 11 development corridors for strategic future investment.

date:  18/08/2022

As part of the Global Gateway, and in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, the Joint Research Centre supported the prioritisation of 11 Strategic Corridors in Africa for targeted future investment, in collaboration with African and European stakeholders.

These corridors criss-cross the continent, linking major cities in a way that most effectively deepens the Africa-EU partnership, supports continental development, and promotes climate ambitions. The comprehensive report on the Identification, characterisation and ranking of Strategic Corridors in Africa outlines how these corridors were identified in a scientifically robust and stakeholder-sensitive way. The significance of these corridors is also showcased in the digital StoryMap on the Africa Knowledge Platform on Sustainable African Cities.
