The Association of Cities and Regions for sustainable Resource management (ACR+) has been mapping how public authorities around the world reacted to ensure an efficient yet safe handling of municipal solid waste.

Experiences gathered show that many had to reallocate manpower and resources to guarantee the essential services.

First observations suggest that the composition and quantity of waste changed during the lockdown; however more monitoring and data are needed.

To this end, ACR+ has launched a survey and invites municipalities and waste operators to share their experience online. It will help identify the key factors to increase the capacity to respond to health crisis while keeping prevention and recycling high on the agenda.
