Collaboration between Territorial Development group and Demography and Migration group.

The collaboration between the JRC Territorial Development group and the Demography and Migration group has been strengthening lately, and it is currently developing research projects including migration, ageing, and the vulnerability of places.

date:  22/09/2020

The collaboration between the Territorial Development unit B.3 and the Demography and Migration unit B.6 brings an important interdisciplinary perspective to the research and it spans through different projects, including the following ones:

Ageing. The European Union is ageing fast. However, ageing and its impacts are not distributed equally across the Union's territory. To better understand the local impacts and externalities of ageing, the LUISA team is generating 1km grids with a breakdown of projected population by 5 year age class. This is done in collaboration with E6, building on population distributions according to the LUISA Reference scenario 2020. More info about the work and methods can be found at the following link:

Lonely Places. In this project both the demographic and the territorial dimension of loneliness will be explored. The interdisciplinary perspective is critical to analyse the territorial and demographic disparities and produce knowledge useful to improve the quality of life of citizens. The analyses developed in this projects are various and include exploring the availability of essential services in cities, and the strategies for the inclusion of migrants.
