RAN Webinar on conspiracy myths and violent extremism – recent challenges and good practices

This virtual event will take place on 7 December, from 10.00-11.40 CET

We are looking for participants to join the RAN Webinar on conspiracy myths and violent extremism – recent challenges and good practices.

This webinar will focus on application-oriented input on the way so-called conspiracy theories, or, more accurately, conspiracy myths, function as potential pathways into extremist radicalisation and potentially violence.

It will address the underlying manipulation mechanisms and dynamics inherent to all conspiracy myths and provide input on the most recent developments of conspiracy myths in the context of prevention and countering of violent extremism (P/CVE), in particular in relation to the Covid-19-pandemic.

Additionally, speakers will discuss potential conclusions and recommendations for P/CVE.

The event will feature renowned expert speakers:

  • Katharina Nocun, co-author of the book ‘Fake Facts – How conspiracy theories condition our thinking’ (in German);
  • Dr. Francesco Farinelli, European Foundation for Democracy, author of a RAN paper on ‘The role of conspiracy theories for the mobilisation of right-wing extremist violence’, to be published soon;
  • Prof. Stephan Lewandowsky, University of Bristol & University of Western Australia, co-author of ‘The Conspiracy Theory Handbook’.

The webinar will be hosted by Alexander Ritzmann, Senior Advisor to RAN.

If you would like to join this webinar, please register via this link.

If you have any further questions, contact Alexander Ritzmann and Maximilian Ruf.
