Reflecting on DG HERA’s role in Europe’s health security
At a CEPS roundtable, DG HERA was the subject of several in-depth studies on the EU and global health security architecture. Director-General Florika Fink-Hooijer outlined how DG HERA has evolved from a reactive mechanism into a strategic driver of preparedness, spanning early threat detection, support to research and innovation, stockpiling, procurement and international partnerships. Her core message: preparedness is a long-term investment in health, prosperity and security.

Strengthening health resilience: new initiative for mpox testing and sequencing in Africa launched
The European Commission and the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have launched today the Partnership to Accelerate Mpox Testing and Sequencing in Africa (PAMTA) initiative. This initiative, funded under the EU4Health 2024 Work Programme, aims to enhance health emergency preparedness and response across the continent. As a testament to EU-Africa health cooperation, PAMTA will support comprehensive diagnostics capabilities and resilience against future health threats.
