On 27 July, the European Commission announced the results of the 2022 call for the European Universities Initiative: of 52 application received, a total of 20 European Universities alliances have been selected to receive up to EUR 14.4 million each from the Erasmus+ programme for four years. In total, a record budget of up to EUR 272 million is available for these 20 European Universities. We have ensured an inclusive approach, giving opportunities to higher education institutions to join existing alliances or to form new ones. Together with the 24 alliances selected in 2020, we now have 44 European Universities involving 340 higher education institutions in capital cities and remote regions of 31 countries, including all EU Member States as well as Iceland, Norway, Serbia, and Turkey.
