Coronavirus

JRC has been contributing with a substantial evidence-based input to the European Commission’s response to the COVID-19 crisis. In April the JRC scientists defined a new control material to help preventing coronavirus test failures, thus increasing their accuracy.

The lack of positive control materials was considered being one of the main challenges faced by laboratories, in Europe and beyond, for the reliable implementation of coronavirus tests. Samples of JRC material were immediately dispatched to all EU Member States, for free to licenced laboratories and research centres. In addition, actions were taken to coordinate the Covid-19 crisis through JRC’s crisis management tools, including the Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre
