EU notifies exit from Energy Charter Treaty and puts an end to intra-EU arbitration proceedings

The EU has finalised its withdrawal from the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT), a multilateral trade and investment agreement for the energy sector, deeming it incompatible with the EU's climate and energy objectives outlined in the European Green Deal and the Paris Agreement.

Commission provides guidance on collaborative investment frameworks for offshore energy projects

The European Commission has published a guidance document (C/2024/3998) on efficiently organizing investment frameworks for cross-border offshore grid and renewable projects. This will aid EU countries, regulatory authorities, and system operators in cost-sharing discussions to achieve regional offshore renewable targets. The guidelines, outlined under the TEN-E Regulation, follow the EU Action Plan for Grids from last November, which emphasized the importance of collaborative investment frameworks for offshore renewables.
