ETIP PV Conference 2024: The Potential of Solar PV Technologies with Digital Tools for Responsive Power Systems

The conference highlighted the pivotal role of cutting-edge solar PV technology in transforming energy systems. As cyber secure digitalisation takes the forefront in technology discussions, the conference delved into its critical importance in protecting and optimising energy infrastructures.

date:  29/05/2024

The 2024 ETIP PV Conference brought together solar PV innovators and energy stakeholders to advance the integration of solar PV technology into a sustainable energy future. The conference featured four panel discussions focusing on solar PV systems' effective control, energy sharing, flexibility, and the energy data space. One session was co-organized with ETIP SNET.

Lukasz Kolinski from the European Commission emphasized solar PV's role in a resilient and flexible energy system. Panelists discussed integrating large amounts of solar-generated electricity into the market. Rutger Schlatmann highlighted PV's evolution from a niche technology to a crucial energy transition component.

The conference underscored the importance of end-users and energy communities in the energy transition, advocating for smart solutions within supportive regulatory frameworks. Venizelos Efthymiou noted the maturation of solar PV technologies alongside power electronics and storage. Pierre-Jean Alet concluded that photovoltaics are now vital for the entire power system, highlighting the potential of energy communities and software-defined power networks.

Overall, the conference provided a valuable platform for discussions on integrating solar PV technology into a sustainable energy future.

The European Technology and Innovation Platform for Photovoltaics provides advice on solar photovoltaic energy policy. It is an independent body recognised by the European Commission, and the SET Plan Steering Group as a representative of the photovoltaic sector. Its recommendations may cover the areas of research and innovation, market development including competitiveness, education and industrial policy.
