REPowerEU - Affordable, secure and sustainable energy for Europe

The European Commission is executing the REPowerEU Plan, launched in May 2022, to phase out Russian fossil fuel imports in response to the disruptions caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This plan aims to save energy, diversify energy supplies, and promote clean energy production. As a result, the EU has protected citizens and businesses from energy shortages, supported Ukraine by reducing Russia's financial resources, accelerated the transition to clean energy, and stabilized prices. Despite Putin's attempt to use energy supplies as a tool for division, Europe remains united and better prepared than before.

Discussion on electricity grids, Russian fossil fuel imports and European Green Deal

The Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simons attended on 30th of May the Energy Council in Brussels to discuss with Ministers the development of future-proof electricity grids, which are key doe the integration of renewables in the EU's energy system and the achievement of the clean energy transition.
