Just published: Mapping progress in energy systems research and innovation – Update report

The “ETIP SNET Mapping progress in energy systems research and innovation – Update report” has been published on the Publications office of the European Union and is available on the Publications section of the ETIP SNET website.

This ETIP SNET's report is the first to provide an update on progress monitoring using the new research methodology with High-Level Use Cases (HLUCs) and Priority Project Concepts (PPCs) first introduced in the ETIP SNET 2022-2025 Implementation Plan. The new methodology required that the results of the (previous) 1st progress report could be related to the current results. This has been ensured by cross-referencing the PPC development scale with progress on the Research Tasks covered in the previous survey. Such a comparison makes it possible to assess whether progress in PPC and HLUC development is being hindered or facilitated by progress in Research Tasks.

Soon to be published: ETIP SNET R&I Implementation Plan 2025+

The ETIP SNET R&I Implementation Plan 2025+ will soon be published on the Publications office of the European Union. The report updates the previous ETIP SNET, R&I Implementation Plan 2022-2025 released in December 2021 and available on the Publications section of the ETIP SNET website. Below is a description of the newest revision.

By 2050, the extensive electrification in (nearly) all sectors of the energy system, combined with large energy efficiency improvements and CO2 reductions in all sectors, should lead to a carbon-neutral energy system. In order to show the view of the more than 350 ETIP SNET Stakeholders, the ETIP SNET published and updated The ETIP SNET R&I Implementation Plans 2025+ with a total overall proposed budget of 954 M€ for R&I Projects during 2025-2028. The Implementation Plans describes the details of the most urgent R&I needs to be tackled through European Commission and national R&I work programmes and calls (notably Horizon Europe Multiannual Framework). The ETIP SNET proposed Project Priority Concepts based on the 9 High Level Use Cases (defined in the ETIP SNET Roadmap 2022-2031) intending to underline the urgency of realising the transformation of today’s energy system through concrete R&I projects into the needed (partially) renewable energy system of 2031 and the fully CO2-neutral energy system of 2050 as the ultimate goal.

Take part to the ETIP SNET Survey on the Policy Paper "Energy Data Spaces"

Energy data spaces are one of the key pillars of the recently published Digitalization of Energy Action Plan released by the European Commission (EC) during the Fall 2022. They constitute a necessity to enable a digitalised energy system with more available data streaming from all energy-related sectors that can be shared among trusted parties. The announcement of a common European energy data space by the EC aims to strengthen interoperability among different systems and make it possible for more innovative services to enter the market.

The ETIP SNET WG4 Task Force 1 is leading the drafting of a policy paper on Energy Data Spaces, with the collaboration of several ETIP SNET members and experts, is to give a short technical introduction to the topic providing references for a deeper analysis and then to focus on the steps and opportunities that can be identified today for a quick deployment of a common European energy data space.

You can contribute to this paper replying to the survey that aims to collect the opinions of industry and practitioners in the development of this process
These opinions will be used to complement the preparation of a policy paper that ETIP-SNET will deliver to the European Commission in September.
Do not miss this occasion and contribute by 16th August, 2023.
Your participation and feedback in this initiative is highly appreciated.
Thanks for your cooperation!
