Register for the ETIP SNET & BRIDGE Key results and steps forward networking event!

On 20th June 2023, the ETIP SNET and BRIDGE will host its “Key results and steps forward” networking event in Brussels at the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR) from 18:00 onwards. A networking walking dinner will follow a one-hour panel session.

Do not miss the opportunity to meet with numerous relevant stakeholders in the energy field and learn about the key results achieved over the past three years and the upcoming steps forward of the two European Commission’s (EC) initiatives.

The Event will be exclusively in person. Registration is required to participate.

The “ETIP SNET and BRIDGE - Key Results and steps forward” will take place on the evening of the first day of the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW). Participants will be welcomed with an aperitif at 18.00, and by 18:30, a panel session will begin, followed by a networking walking dinner.

In the panel, speakers will present and discuss the main achievements of the two EC initiatives and their contribution to guiding Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) to support Europe’s energy transition. Moreover, you will have the unique opportunity to meet the BRIDGE projects responsible in the “EU BRIDGE Projects Corner” to exchange ideas, discover projects’ results and establish new synergies.

The panel session will be followed by a networking walking dinner across the restaurant of KBR and its beautiful terrace overlooking parts of Brussels city centre. One day away from the longest day of the year, this will be the perfect occasion to network and liaise with the vast community of energy experts part of the ETIP SNET and BRIDGE.

Register for the 17th ETIP SNET Regional Workshop!

DO NOT MISS the opportunity to join the 17th ETIP SNET Regional Workshop on Tuesday, 21 March (09:00 – 16:15 GMT+2), which will take place in Vaasa within the scope of the Vaasa EnergyWeek in a hybrid format (physical participation is highly advised).

The overall purpose of this event is to learn more about national and regional research, development and innovation (RDI) and how and if they are aligned to the RDI activities on the EU level and, specifically, to the ones identified in the ETIP SNET Implementation Plan 2022-2025 and that will be the base of the High Levell Use Cases in the updated ETIP SNET Roadmap 2022-2031, expected within this week.

The Workshop will provide a unique opportunity to learn about R&I projects around Europe and contribute to the identification of R&I gaps, challenges and priorities. The workshop will take place within the Vaasa Energy Week, which every year gathers energy enthusiasts from all over the world to share information, hear about the latest news and most interesting cases, extend their networks and do business.  The Workshop is organised in co-operation with the Vaasa Energy Business Innovation Centre (VEBIC).

To that end, the ETIP SNET invited the representatives of national and regional funding and support programmes from Northern Europe (Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia) that will meet and discuss together with the EC, national funding authorities and ministries about RDI priorities and next funding programmes.

The Vaasa EnergyWeek focuses on renewable energies, smart energy, gas energy and energy storage. Topics of interest include digitalization, batteries and storage, circular economy, future smart cities, energy regulation, business and innovation.

Are you Interested in joining?

Are you a representative of a university, technology centre, energy utility, distribution or transmission system operator, technology or service provider, funding authority, national or regional ministry, regulator, national or regional technology platform?

Are you active in the field of Smart Grids and integrated Smart Energy Systems & Markets? Storage and conversion among energy carriers? Interfaces between electricity and heat, cooling, gas and transport? Digitisation? Flexible thermal and renewable generation? Flexible energy consumption? Prosumer and customer participation?

Then, kindly fill in the following registration form.

Please note that we can accept only a limited number of registrations, and the principle “first comes, first served will be applied”.

Working Groups updates

WG1

The White Paper on “E-mobility deployment and impact on grids” is published and can be found here.

The Flexibility for Resilience White paper is published and available.

The Hydrogen and Grids Task Force is continuing its drafting work and aims to achieve their first draft before Q2 of 2023.

The TF on Energy Communities’ Impact on Grids in cooperation with ISGAN has significantly advanced with respect to the drafting of the deliverable.

The 2023 workplan has been announced by the Governing Board and the ETIP SNET WG1 will engage in bilateral discussions with the ETIP SNET Chair Team to further explore how the WG1 foresees the next year of work.

WG2

There has been some delay in the activities of the WG2 product of unforeseen circumstances in the Chair Team. In terms of ongoing activities, TF KPI on Energy Storage Applications paper has received preliminary feedback from the respective EC policy officer. The WG2 is has implemented this feedback and is now advancing with the final formatting and publishing steps.

Furthermore, the WG2 has mapped the activities of its next TF; Development of Circular Economy Approach to Energy Storage Value Chains and expects to kick off this TF in the coming months.

WG3

The white paper “Coupling of Heat/Cooling and Electricity Sectors in a Renewable Energy Driven Europe” is published and can be found here. The paper will be presented at different conferences in 2023 such as the European Biomass Conference and Exhibition in Italy in June. An application to a policy session for EUSEW is currently ongoing.

The WG3 is also finalising the "New Electricity Market Design" position paper. It will be presented at the next Governing Board meeting on February 8th for the final validation. WG3 is also working on a "Hydrogen Ramp-up" position paper.

WG4

is working on the content of the Energy Data Spaces policy paper that will be led by WG4 with the support of the Core Team, upon the proposal of the EC. The next step would be to have a meeting with George Paunescu, DG ENER Policy Officer, to specify the content of the policy paper and agree on how to proceed. The development of the Energy Data Spaces is currently a priority and it will be carried out within the activities of the TF1. Regarding TF3, the necessity to stop overlapping the work that other WGs and initiatives are carrying out has been discussed, as well as the need to focus on digital enablers for citizens’ participation in the energy transformation. Additionally, he stressed that short-term impacts per Use Case should be addressed. Moreover, following the initiative of having WG4 members present related projects and initiatives they are involved with, Mark McGranaghan and Miguel Ángel Sánchez Fornié presented the EPRI Initiatives and the EDDIE project respectively.

WG5

is currently defining the scope of the Regulatory Sandboxes Policy paper. A group of experts that will collaborate in the production of the policy paper has already been set up and they have developed a first version of the paper’s content. The next step will be to have a meeting with the ETIP SNET Chairmanship to discuss and further align the content of the policy paper with the priorities of the ETIP SNET as a whole. Additionally, a maturity index tool has been developed within working team 3 of our working group 5, and it is currently operational in the EIRIE platform. To facilitate the expert use of the maturity index tool, WG5 is compiling input on the starting TRL of all the technologies synthesizing the current integrated grid as agreed at the level of ETIP SNET and BRIDGE.
