IRENA publishes full version of the World Energy Transition Outlook: 1.5°C Pathway
Previously, a short version of the same report was released. Now, IRENA has published a full report providing a detailed analysis of the world energy transition solutions. The analysis shows that over 90% of solutions shaping a successful outcome in 2050 involve renewable energy through direct supply, electrification, energy efficiency, green hydrogen and bioenergy combined with carbon capture and storage (BECCS).

Global electricity demand is growing faster than renewables, driving strong increase in generation from fossil fuels
New IEA report sees 5% rise in electricity demand in 2021 with almost half the increase met by fossil fuels, notably coal, threatening to push CO2 emissions from the power sector to record levels in 2022.

IEA: Behavioural Insights for Inclusive Energy Policy
Webinar. 20 Jul 2021 14:30—16:00
Many aspects of clean energy transitions will hinge on behaviour – how people use energy in their daily lives, what appliances they choose to purchase, and how business and employees make decisions. In IEA’s Net Zero by 2050 scenario, 4% of the total emissions will be mitigated by behavioural changes at the individual level.
This event, which will be opened and closed by Belgium Minister of Energy Tinne Van Der Straeten, will explore how behavioural insights can help accelerate clean energy transitions and ensure an inclusive energy future for all.
This webinar will inform the discussions of the Global Commission on People-Centred Clean Energy Transitions.
Sustainable Recovery Tracker
20 Jul 2021
Governments around the world have been mobilising large amounts of stimulus funds in response to the economic crisis triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic. Many have called for a sustainable recovery – using stimulus packages to build the infrastructure needed to put the world’s energy-related CO2 emissions into structural decline. The IEA is tracking these stimulus packages to estimate the additional clean energy investment mobilised by these and other policies, both in the private and public sector. We will also estimate how much these investments will do to bend the curve on global emissions.
