Compact TES of the Future: from Challenges to Opportunities”, Hystore Workshop at ICSET 2025

date: 12/05/2025
Join the Hystore project and the TES - Thermal Energy Storage Cluster at the workshop “Compact TES of the Future: from Challenges to Opportunities” that will take place on 24 June 2025 in the context of the International Congress on Sustainable Energy and related Technologies (ICSET) 2025 in Lipari (Italy).
The Compact TES of the Future: from Challenges to Opportunities workshop will explore the innovative advancements and challenges in developing compact and efficient thermal energy storage (TES) solutions for residential buildings and is organised by the TES Cluster, which is formed by four pioneering European projects: ThumbsUp, Best Storage, Hystore, and ECHO.
These initiatives are dedicated to revolutionising energy storage technologies, addressing critical issues like material efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and integration with renewable energy sources. Participants will benefit from the expertise and insights of leading professionals in the field.
AGENDA:
Welcome and introduction
Sara Attanà, beWarrant – Tinexta Group
Project presentations and advances achieved, and evaluate the progress made
- ECHO Project: thermal energy storage potentialities and constraints - Sergio Bobbo, CNR-ITC
- Phase change slurry energy storage for cooling load shifting (BEST-Storage) - Daniel Carbonell, OST
- Demonstration of sector-coupling based on advanced thermal energy storage: a model predictive control framework for load-shifting and grid-balancing (Hystore) - Ilaria Marotta, CNR-ITAE
- ThumbsUp Project – Balancing the grid one building at a time: Optimizing thermal storage strategies - Guillermo Andrés Nieto, Veolia
Identification of the main challenges to be addressed by the end of each project.
Andrea Frazzica, CNR-ITAE
Hands-on with the different challenges and possible solutions:
- Looking inside the box: Power-to-X possibilities unlocked by compact TES - Juan Carlos del Castillo Garcia, CARTIF, Dani Carbonell, OST, Andrea Frazzica, CNR-ITAE.
- Looking outside the box: TES for easy integration - Guillermo Andrés Nieto, Veolia, Maria Chiesa, beWarrant – Tinexta Group
