The energy transition is a hot topic and focus area for many politicians and energy professionals.  The phrase is often seen and heard in the media, but what does the general public understand when they hear it?

The phrase can prompt many different questions, including:
•    What is the role of citizens and local energy communities in the energy transition?
•    What is power system flexibility?
•    What are the potentials and advantages?
•    What other, sustainable uses are possible for an e-car, apart from eco-driving?
•    Can the smart charging of electric vehicles improve the sustainability of the grid?
•    How does the energy transition impact rural villages in India? Are microgrids a solution for them?

The above questions are available in a recent brochure released by the SUSTENANCE project.

If you wish to learn more about SUSTENANCE, you can watch this video, which presents the aims of the project and introduces its 6 demonstrators, 3 from the EU and 3 from India. The video is available via the SUSTENANCE profile at the ENLIT WORLD platform.

SUSTENANCE focuses on the development of smart technological concepts to enable the energy transition. The demonstration activities are in 4 countries: Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland and India. These surely differ in local energy resources, user behaviour, political structures, socio-economic and market conditions and regulations. However, SUSTENANCE will show how the same technical concepts e.g., the coupling of different energy vectors, storage solutions, demand response, smart control and digitalisation, can be applied in each case, despite these differences.
