BRIDGE General Assembly 2023: Conclusions and next steps published

The Conclusions and next steps of the BRIDGE General Assembly 2023 are now available to be read on the BRIDGE website.

The BRIDGE General Assembly 2023 took place from the 28 to the 30 March 2023, in Brussels in hybrid mode. The objective of these annual meetings is to share experiences and create a better understanding among the BRIDGE projects, learn more about the project's results and help them to strengthen cooperation with a view to establishing European best practice standards.

The Assembly was very well attended, with over 300 registrations gathered (around) 75 people were on-site and more than online 150 online attendees. The European Commission services (DG ENER, DG CNECT) presented the latest policy developments and introduced the main areas where Bridge could contribute to policy-making processes. The four Bridge working groups presented the activities and achievements of the past year and held working sessions to discuss and agree on the work plans for this year. A focus session on “Setting up a common European data space for energy” presented the concept and current developments regarding the data space and discussed the way forward and potential Bridge contributions.

This year, the traditional (lengthier) presentations of new projects did not take place in the plenary sessions, and this is notably due to the high number of new projects (60) that joined the initiative. Therefore, a new way of interacting with the new projects was used instead. Project posters were presented at the GA premises, and they allowed participants to get to know them and to speak directly with the new project coordinators that were available throughout the meeting period.

The Bridge completed projects briefly presented their main accomplishments and shared their lessons learned and recommendations for the new projects joining the initiative. Several initiatives such as ETIP SNET, the Smart Grid Task Force (SGTF), the Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETP) and 2ZERO Partnership shared interesting presentations about their latest work, allowing the Bridge community to understand them better.

Also, the plenary on International Cooperation jointly presented by DG ENER, RTD, JRC, and the Bridge “IElectrix project” which has activities in India, gave an insight into the international engagement. ENTSO-E and the EU DSO Entity introduced their joint preparatory work for promoting digital twins of the electricity grids.

Register for the ETIP SNET & BRIDGE Key results and steps forward networking event!

On 20 June 2023, BRIDGE and the ETIP SNET will host its “Key results and steps forward” networking event in Brussels at the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR) from 18:00 onwards. A ninety-minute presentation and panel discussion will be followed by a networking walking dinner. The event is a Sustainable Energy Day within the framework of the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW).

Do not miss the opportunity to meet with numerous relevant stakeholders in the energy field and learn about the key results achieved over the past three years and the upcoming steps forward of the two European Commission’s (EC) initiatives.

The Event will be exclusively in person. Registration is required to participate.

Participants will be welcomed with an aperitif at 18.00, and by 18:30, a presentation and panel discussion will be held until 20:00 and followed by a networking walking dinner. Moreover, you will have the unique opportunity to meet the BRIDGE projects responsible in the “EU BRIDGE Projects Corner” to exchange ideas, discover projects’ results and establish new synergies.

This event aims to showcase the progress and achievements made by the ETIP SNET and BRIDGE initiatives in the last three years and to trace the path forward to accelerating the EU’s energy transition while contributing to the general policy setting of the European Commission.                        In the panel, speakers will present and discuss the main achievements of the two EC initiatives and their contribution to guiding Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) to support Europe’s energy transition.

Moreover, you will have the unique opportunity to meet the BRIDGE projects’ responsible in the “EU BRIDGE Projects Corner” to exchange ideas, discover projects’ results and establish new synergies.

The panel session will be followed by a networking walking dinner across the restaurant of KBR.

EUSEW 2023: BRIDGE Policy Session and Energy Fair stand

BRIDGE will participate in a Policy Session at the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2023 titled “Empowering energy communities: building capacity for social innovation”, which will take place on 21 June from 14:30 to 16:00.

As we celebrate the five-year anniversary of the Clean Energy Package (incl. REDII and IEMD), this EUSEW provides an opportunity to discuss remaining barriers and possible solutions to the deployment of energy community projects. This session will discuss the next steps envisioned through Fit for 55, and the ways in which energy communities help respond to the energy crisis. It will explore non-regulatory issues and barriers related to project design, development and implementation, as well as the design of suitable policy measures, such as one-stop shops, to help overcome these barriers.

Register your attendance at EUSEW 2023 for this and several other sessions included “Revision of the SET plan: boosting skills for R&I and competitiveness in clean energy technologies” co-organised by the ETIPs FORUM.

Moreover, the ETIP SNET and BRIDGE will have an Energy Fair stand onsite together with the ETIPs FORUM titled “bringing the energy transition forward”. Check out our profile and those of the other organisations attending the Energy Fair on the EUSEW 2023 website.

BRIDGE and the ETIP SNET will attend EM-Power Europe in Munich

BRIDGE and the ETIP SNET will take part to the EM-Power Europe Conference, the International Exhibition for energy management and integrated energy solutions in Munich from 13 to 16 June 2023. The two EC initiatives will have a joint booth and host a panel session together with the nine BRIDGE projects below:

Panel session: The Latest from EU Innovation: BRIDGE Projects, Activities and Outcomes

The world is facing unprecedented challenges in the form of climate change and the urgent need to transition to a sustainable energy future. In order to tackle these challenges, we must harness the power of research and innovation to drive forward the development of new technologies, processes, and solutions. This session, organised by the ETIP SNET and BRIDGE will bring on the stage nine H2020 and Horizon Europe projects. The panel session will be divided into two separate breakdown sessions along the topics of:

  1. Flexibility and retail market options for DSO - Replicable solutions for a cross sector compliant energy ecosystem;
  2. Consumer engagement and demand response (including interoperable smart homes and grids) and decarbonising systems in energy and geographical Islands.

In each of the two breakout sessions, panellists will take part in an interactive discussion along the three topics listed below. The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A session where questions from the audience will be collected. Join us to enhance your understanding of the current state of energy-related areas and to identify where the gaps and needs for future research and innovation priorities lie!

Enlit Europe and the EU Project Zone

For the sixth year in a row, the ETIP SNET and BRIDGE will take part in Enlit Europe, the “constantly growing, inclusive, end-to-end forum that addresses every aspect of the energy agenda”, which this year will take place in Paris from 28 to 30 November.

As for the previous editions, both initiatives are actively contributing to the organisation of the EU Project Zone, the area dedicated to European-funded projects committed to accelerating the energy transition.

Consult the brochure describing the packages for the live event and digital ways of dissemination through the EU Project Zone.

For the new Bridge project, acknowledging the initial lack of results but the willingness to attend and present the projects’ objectives, please inform the BRIDGE Secretariat if you would be interested in attending and based on the number of projects, we will check with Enlit organisers what would be the best set up to give your project the proper visibility. Different options are also available to those projects that would like to organise an open workshop or hold a final event as a side event of Enlit Europe. Please inform us about any of the above, providing details about the planned date, number of expected attendees and required AV and Catering. Based on that, Clarion Events will put together a tailor-made package.

To express your interest in attending and for any issues related to payment and logistics, please contact Linda Görtler-Weiss Linda.Goertler-Weiss@clarionevents.com from Clarion Events, the organisers of Enlit Europe.
