Dear Reader,

We hope you had a great start of the year! Some interesting developments unfold in the last month:

  • The European Commission has approved a €550 million Italian State aid scheme to support investments for the use of hydrogen in industrial processes to foster the transition to a net-zero economy. The scheme was approved under the State aid Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework to support measures in sectors which are key to accelerate the green transition and reduce fuel dependencies.
  • According to the latest ENTSO-E study, offshore RES will become the third-important energy resource in the European power system, providing 18 % of the dispatched energy in 2040 and 2050. This will require important investments of up to EUR 400 billion in EU's T&D infrastructure. Find out more about the European offshore network transmission infrastructure needs report here.

On the ID-E, what a month it has been!

  • The 2nd Plenary Meeting of the Investors Dialogue took place on 10 January 2023 and gathered around 190 participants both onsite (Brussels) and online.
  • We released our ID-E Studies on current energy sector investment and schemes in:

What to expect in this February? The 10th round of Working Group meetings will be held this month. This round of meetings will be a cross-Working Group one, as we will focus on 3 EU programmes (InvestEU, CEF energy, LIFE subprogramme on the clean energy transition) with relevance for multiple segments of the energy value chain. The meetings will focus on exploring what has worked well and less well with these programmes, and what are the main areas for improvement that can increase their relevance and effectiveness in addressing investment barriers in the energy sector.

Do reach out if you have any recommendations on topics and speakers, or if you would like to refer a person or organisation to be part of the Dialogue. Email lu_investors_dialogue@pwc.com – we would love to hear from you.

Yours truly,
The Editor

2nd ID-E Plenary

The Second Plenary Meeting of the Investors Dialogue on Energy was held on 23 January 2024 in Brussels.

20 speakers shared insights on the most pressing energy issues, looking at topics such as current EU energy policy initiatives (REPowerEU, Wind Power Action Plan, Grid Action Plan), opportunities and challenges for hydrogen and batteries, the role of cities and energy communities in the decarbonisation of energy, as well as updates from the Working Groups on the ongoing work in designing pilot financial instruments across the different segments of the energy value chain.

Speakers included high level representation from the European Commission, European Investment Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the International Energy Agency, in addition to select founders of the innovative energy start-ups, VCs, energy communities, coordinators of key EU-funded initiatives and the members of the Investors Dialogue Working Groups.

Around 190 participants attended the event. If you were one of them, feel free to give us your feedback here.

The recording of the sessions will be available on the ID-E website this week.

Plenary Meetings are held annually in Brussels. This is a key event culminating the yearly activities of the Investors Dialogue on Energy, and it is open to the ID-E Community and its stakeholders.
