Editorial
Dear Smart Cities Marketplace Community,

While COVID-19 seems to come to a halt in Europe our countries, cities and citizens are now being shaken by the impact of the war in Ukraine – high energy prices at times of shortage of public budgets, having dramatic consequences for the most vulnerable households, companies, and consumers. While the EU’s RePowerEU strategy aims to fight these effects with a vast catalogue of measures, there are possibly many ways to implement the identified measures, ideally acknowledging that European towns and cities are indispensable allies and prime partners.

Yet, towns and cities need practical support and help with the present challenges. The Smart Cities Marketplace is best positioned to complement the EU efforts with a comprehensive catalogue of offers to come in 2023: calls for free technical assistance, calls for urban projects, one-to-one-consultancy services for city-led consortia close to the financing stage, financing masterclasses and fine-tuned matchmaking for the financing of urban projects with the help of the steadily growing investor network of the Marketplace, an interactive wiki, an all-new community featuring Focus and Discussion groups, many of which continue the excellent work of the well-known Action Clusters, intensified partnerships with other EU initiatives, such as the Covenant of Mayors, Scalable Cities, CIVITAS, Living-in.eu, to name but a few … all this to say: stay tuned for the great offers to come from the Smart Cities Marketplace!
