A recent Commission study on funding Ocean Energy has highlighted that Europe has spent €3 billion on ocean energy over the last decade, and has today a strong pipeline of projects for a total capacity of 1 GW. Although most of the funding for research and development has come from the private sector, the report also underlines the importance of public funding as leverage for private capital and finance research.
