The European Labour Market Barometer recorded its first increase in five months in February. The leading indicator of the European Network of Public Employment Services and the IAB gains 0.3 points and thus stands at 99.5 points in February. The component forecasting unemployment rose by 0.5 points, but remains in clearly negative territory at 98.7 points. The employment component, on the other hand, rose slightly in positive territory by 0.2 points to 100.3 points. Spain is included for the first time, with an overall value of 101.1 points. Without Spain, however, the European Labour Market Barometer would have been 0.5 points lower. ‘Pessimistic expectations predominate among the European Labour Market Services. However, there are also more optimistic assessments, such as in Spain, which is included in the European Labour Market Barometer for the first time,’ explains Enzo Weber, IAB head of forecast.
