Network Data Steering Group holds inaugural meeting to unlock the value of data

The Heads of Medicines Agencies and the European Medicines Agency set up the Network Data Steering Group (NDSG) to enhance data use in medicine regulation and decision-making, supporting innovation and public health in the EU. The group held its kick-off meeting in January 2025 to begin planning its work for the next three years.

The NDSG was formed by merging the Big Data Steering Group and the Network Data Board into a single strategic advisory group responsible for overseeing data strategy and governance within the European medicines regulatory network.

The NDSG brings together multidisciplinary expertise and perspectives from partners and stakeholders across Europe. Its goals include improving data interoperability, exchange, and use within the regulatory network, enhancing access to data and evidence generation, and leveraging AI in regulatory decision-making.

The group will play a key role in implementing the European medicines agencies network strategy 2028, particularly contributing to the achievement of goals related to leveraging data, digitalisation, and artificial intelligence.

The group is co-chaired by Karl Broich (HMA, BfArM) and Peter Arlett (EMA).
