A revised Guideline on the acceptability of names for human medicinal products processed through the centralised procedure came into effect on 1 January 2024. It clarifies the criteria applied to address safety and public health concerns, international non-proprietary names issues and other procedural aspects. New definitions are introduced, such as the cognitive error, the umbrella branding, and the ‘in-use’ status.
